The Yoga MBA

The Yoga MBA is a workshop series I put together years ago. I come back to it from time to time, jotting down notes to improve upon it. It may be time to bring it back up, dust it off, and look into offering it at local (or not so local) studios!

Yoga teachers, this course offers CEU’s! This isn’t your typical course. It’s an outside the box perspective on many concepts we learn in teacher training.

The Yoga MBA is a yoga workshop that goes beyond the mat. This workshop series is intended for working professionals. When you reframe the modern workplace with a yogic lens, a whole new perspective comes into view.

Why is this important and who am I to teach it? Well, I hold a MBA degree in change management, a Graduate Certificate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. I have a lot of experience and education that lends to this workshop. The Yoga MBA offers a new perspective from which to view the workplace.

Consider this. You’re at work and dealing with a lot. Everyone has a lot on their plate. It could be professional or personal in nature, or a combination of both. You have a co-worker that just is not getting the new system you are using. You’re responsible for training them and you’re at your wits end. Your patience is exhausted and you’re barely able to hold it together doing your own work in addition to training them on the new system. This situation could turn ugly if one day your patience snaps and you express your frustration. Or, you end up taking it to your manager for them to deal with, which may not look good on you. There are other ways this could play out, but for the sake of making a point, I’ll use these as examples.

The Yoga MBA will help you reframe your perspective. You’ll be able to view your co-worker with some grace, putting yourself into their shoes and understanding where they are coming from. This in itself better sets you up for success in getting through to them while training. You’ll also have better coping mechanisms for dealing with your stress, so that you can breathe more freely and not feel so weighed down at work.

The Yoga MBA is not a one-stop cure for your workplace woes. It is a framework upon which you will build. One of the course aims is to develop (or hone) your self awareness. This takes time and effort. It’s a continuous process. I can attest that this is something I am still working on and have been for years. The beauty of this course is that while much of the course content may seem like common sense, the course allows for fresh perspective and reframing of your experiences.
