Returning Home

It has been a long time since I have posted. Over three years in fact. I let life get the best of me. I was working in high stress environments and also managing a teaching schedule, all while trying to live a life worth living. I honestly had no bandwidth for posting to my website.

I recently made a strategic job change to allow me to breathe again. Since 2016, I’ve gone from one high stress job to another. Working an extraordinary amount of hours for what amounts to nothing but stress. The only good thing to come from working these jobs is that as of October 2020, I have paid off all debt except for the house, car, and the dreaded student loans. This is an extraordinary feat that I am proud of. I had thousands of dollars in personal debt in 2013 and have been working to pay that off ever since. Now that the debt has been paid off, I was able to make the decision to make a strategic career move. To leave a high-paying, high-stress job for a significantly lower paying, lower-stress job.

The recent job change shifted me from the private sector to the public sector. I previously worked in manufacturing/distribution/fulfillment and now I work for the local school district. I am the district’s Employee Relations Specialist. I am acclimating to working in the public sector and getting used to no longer being a manager where I make the decisions. Taking a step back from leadership to more of an individual contributor role has been a challenge for me. I am getting used to my stress level being low and actually manageable. What is truly positive about this change is that it has freed me up to pursue other things like a Graduate Certificate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and a return to posting on my website.

My goal is start weekly posts. I want to have an open discussion about what it means to be a modern practitioner of yoga. I have recently started to end my classes lately with a short reminder that yoga does not need to be something you only practice on the mat. I invite my students to make the conscious decision to take their yoga practice off the mat. So I’d like my posts to focus on that and anything else that might come to mind.

That being said, if you have any topic requests, or subjects you’d like me to touch on, let me know! Leave a comment, shoot me a message, DM, etc.
