An Evolving Practice

Something that I often come to in my thoughts is what my yoga practice looks like after practicing more than eleven years and being a yoga teacher for more than seven years. There is something of a false narrative in the first part of that sentence.

…what my yoga practice looks like…”

Yoga is not entirely about the physical. There is more to yoga than the asana practice. A lot of what yoga is, remains unseen. Yoga is a practice that goes beyond the physical postures and the breath. My yoga practice still involves a lot of asana practice but it has also expanded to include pranayama, dharana, dhyana, and increased interest in the practical application of the yamas and nimayas.

I’ve made several lifestyle changes over the past few years. The most recent change is that I have moved to Northwestern Michigan as of August, 2024.

I am trying to be more aware of what I am eating and where my food is coming from. I am trying to make an effort to be more active. I’m also trying to reduce my carbon footprint as best I can. I bike to places I need to go when it’s feasible. Now that I am a remote worker (since late 2023!), I don’t venture out as a daily commuter.

I am starting to be more selective in how I spend my time and energy. Work/life balance is something I am trying to be better about. There is always more work to be done and if I am not careful, work will continue to expand to fill any and all time I have.

I’m putting my efforts into being the best person I can be, personally and professionally. I’m always looking for new learning opportunities to deepen my knowledge of human resources, yoga, and bootcamp/CrossFit. I also have been looking for ways to apply and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities I have.

My practice is shifting, just like my life is shifting. Evolution and change is what’s happening and I’m leaving into it.

I remain steadfast and I am willing to lean into and embrace change.
