It has been a while since I have taught a yoga class. Today is November 3, 2024. The last yoga class I taught was mid-July. I actively taught yoga with only brief pauses from May 2017 until July 2024. I am hoping to start teaching again at the studio I’ve been attending, since our move to NW Michigan. After such a long break, I am hoping to have a fresh start, with new and creative classes with a rediscovered love for class prep.
After we settled in from the move, life found a new normal. However something was absent. Not teaching yoga felt like I was missing something important. There is something special about teaching. I’m always studying and growing within my yoga practice, and teaching offers me an avenue to teach what I know. People say that ‘You teach what you need to hear the most’. I’m not sure I completely subscribe to that adage, but there is a kernel of truth there. Teaching yoga reinforces the concepts, philosophy, postures, etc., which affords me a secondary learning loop, as I teach to those in the room.
I have an audition scheduled for the near future and I hope it results with me joining the teaching staff of the local studio. I believe I have a lot to offer the studio. I have taught over a thousand hours of classes, and have completed a lot of training beyond the foundational 200 hours required to be a Registered Yoga Teacher. I am curious and always want to improve upon my craft. I have a lot to offer and share with students and teachers alike in any class I teach. I have experience teaching Yin, Restorative, Vinyasa, and more.
When I get on the mat to teach, my mind quiets. I center into myself in a way that lets me be so present in the room. I’m observing the people, offering cues and suggestions to reframe whatever it is that we are doing; postures, breath work, or meditation to facilitate their own inward journey. I look forward to coming back to my mat in a teaching capacity.
